https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=331669 Summary: Installation failed due to bad online performance Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: richard.bos@xs4all.nl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer Just after openSUSE-10.3 was released I tried to install it (this was on Friday 5 October). I started the installation somewhere during the evening, which is normally now problem as regular openSUSE install is done in about an hour. This time it was different. Actually it was not an install, but a upgrade and I have some packages from the buildserver. As the installer proposed to use online repositories, I accepted that so I could have more packages upgraded instead of having them deleted by the installer. So far so good. The upgrade started fine, by selecting packages from the disk, but after some packages (20, 30?) the installer started to download packages.... Unfortenately does took ages: a 50kB package took I guess about 4 minutes.... And the time need to install creep from 1h30 to 4h00.... I did not have this time, as the computer had to be switched off as it is located in a guest room. After this I had a system in a bad state, the old version did not work anymore and it could not be upgraded.... A new install had to be performed. This worked out fine, but with a bad taste! The installation with a online update, should always work in an acceptable time. If this is not possible the user should be warned that a update that involves downloading packages might take a long time. Perhaps a test download should be done, before starting the real upgrade. This test might be able to judge the download quality. If it is bad the usage of the online repositories can than still be cancelled at this save stop point. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
