I do not have a ~/.xinitrc file. As far as I know, it was never created. If it
was, I did not explicitly or (to my knowledge) implicitly remove the file. I
assume the system is defaulting to the global /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.
I am running a stock openSUSE 11 installation, updated from a largely
unmodified 10.3 full installation. If something's not where it's supposed to
be, it's because the openSUSE installer didn't put it there.
I have checked both /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc and /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.common.
Neither file had any mention of DBus, so I don't think it's been overridden.
DBus is enabled for runlevels 2, 3, and 5. It starts on boot, returns "ok".
I have noticed line 77 in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc. The line states:
exec $WINDOWMANAGER
You say DBus should be running in all KDE/Gnome sessions, but it appears it's
not. Could that be fixed by changing this line to:
exec /usr/bin/dbus-launch $WINDOWMANAGER
Let me know what additional info you need. Thanks.
