All information on Code-In refers to last year's contest. There is no current indication of the next contest date. 2. Last year's contest ran from November 22-January 10. Approximately 7 weeks 3. Information on GCI site does not indicate what responsibilities/benefits a mentoring organization receives. 4. Students get $100 (USD) for every 3 tasks they complete. 5. Students are defined as pre-college between the age of 13 - 18. As there is no information about the next Code-In date, we aren't even sure at this time if we should be planning for it. Pros: - Excellent opportunity to build relationships with young individuals and create long-lasting ties to the openSUSE Project. - Potential to get some work done including documentation and other general community-related tasks. Cons: - The mentoring period falls on a holiday season and thus we might have a challenge to find adequate mentors to work with students. - There is no indication that a 2012 GCI contest exists. We *might* be preparing ourselves for nothing. (But then again if we create a comprehensive list of tasks we can use it for other initiatives, not just for CGI.) ToDos: - Build a list of tasks that match the categories mentioned in the CGI FAQ. -- Communicate to all openSUSE teams to get their ideas for tasks - Contact Google to find out more about their plans for GCI Contest. - Contact Google to find out more about the requirements/benefits for Mentoring organizations - Contact the openSUSE GSoC mentors to get their feedback on ways to improve the GCI mentoring process. - Find someone willing to organize this once we have confirmation that GCI will exist. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
