The bootloaders you listed aren't available for a common x86 architecture, AFAIK. Even if they are, they definitely aren't there during installation (supported or not). 2. Sometimes LILO is the only choice, because GRUB simply refuses to boot on some machines (servers mostly). I cannot provide any details, simply because I have no access to any of those machines right now, but at least I had a chance to choose LILO and proceed with the installation. With 11.1, the only other choice becomes using other, LILO-supporting distribution, because having an unbootable distribution is like having no distribution at all. You don't have to support LILO on every possible hardware combination, just make sure it doesn't fail in 100% cases, like it does now.
