Any passwords for accessing mysql go in the user '.my.cnf', including root (e.g. /root/.my.cnf) So there are no passwords in the system-wide /etc/my.cnf. This is just a pure break in packaging. I have used mysql since Mandrake, SuSE 8.0 pro, as well as on Archlinux. For the past decade and a half all distributions (and documentation) have /etc/my.cnf handle system-wide config setting for mysql (mariadb). That is the only way it can work, unless every user is now responsible for writing a ~/.my.cnf before using mysql -- that makes zero sense... See: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/option-files.html /etc/my.cnf provides: GLOBAL options -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
