https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890453 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890453#c0 Summary: r8169 ethernet driver: enormous power consumption Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201407* Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jnelson-suse@jamponi.net QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 I have a laptop with two problematic drivers. The Broadcom (brcmsmac) works, usually, but consumes a lot of power (200x what some of the other 802.11 drivers consume). The r8169 (wired) ethernet also works but consumes even more - powertop is reporting between 7 and 10 *Watts*. It's not even plugged in. This turns my battery life down and (helps to) make the laptop run hot.
