what if the card slot of the Amilo causes all this trouble? How can I check, if the slot is really working (by providing some logs, turning on debug options)? Unfortunately I do not have access to other pcmcia/cardbus hardware than those two wlan adapters ...
Setting ath9k debug is described here [1]. But, when the adapter works in the TP then the ath9k driver shall be ok. You can check what other modules are loaded "lsmod | grep ath9k" and find out what parameters of these module are configurable "modinfo <module> | grep parm" . Try to set them, truncate the messages, reload the drivers and take a look into the messages.
