The user set up during install had no /home directory (bug 591659). Further, any directory listing shows /boot to be empty (nothing, not even /boot/grub). Yet locate shows menu.lst as being in /boot/grub. root@laptop= /temp5 # locate menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.lst <<<<<<< says it's there /boot/grub/menu.lst.old root@laptop= /temp5 # ls /boot root@laptop= /temp5 # cd /boot root@laptop= /boot # ls root@laptop= /boot # cd /boot/grub bash: cd: /boot/grub: No such file or directory <<<<<<< says it's not there Running "find / -maxdepth 3 -type d" yields this: /BACKUP /Bash /Bash/getopts_tutorial_files /bash-scripts /bin /boot <<<<<<<<< nothing under /boot! /dev /dev/block Disk Info: Device MountPoint Start End /dev/sda1 /windows7 1 8924 /dev/sda2 /shared-win 8925 12111 /dev/sda3 EXT 12112 60801 /dev/sda5 swap 12112 12748 /dev/sda6 /boot 12749 12774 <<<<<<< /boot is a partition /dev/sda7 / 12774 29347 /dev/sda8 /downloads 29347 32534 /dev/sda9 /source 32534 34064 /dev/sda10 /temp1 34064 35338 /dev/sda11 /home 35338 60801 Tried several installs with same results. During this, installed another distro (fedora) which did not have errors. Then completely removed and repartitioned drive with PartedMagic 4.9 and re-formatted each partition during install. System does reboot with grub boot menu and loads correctly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install 11.3-M4 from DVD-Build0515 x86_64 2.During install, received same message as bug 591659 and failed to boot into user /home directory. Corrected by creating users /home directory 3.After install, /boot displays as empty directory but system says files are there Actual Results: Any listing of /boot says it is empty but system says the boot files are there. Expected Results: Directory listing to show files and /grub under /boot Dell Studio 1745 4 GB RAM 450 GB hard drive: ST9500420AS DVD: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GA11N -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
