https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=463740 Summary: Network manager won't connect to wifi network Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mark@marktaff.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Community User Network manager won't connect to my college wifi network, though I can connect with iwconfig & ifup just fine. Net man also works fine at home and at work. Th college doesn't broadcast it's wifi's presence, by some means unknown to me. It won't even show up via iwlist. However, if you use iwconfig to set the essid to "Student-Wireless", then bring up eth1, then request an ip via dhcpcd, you *will* get a working network connection. It seems that network manager lacks the faith to try to connect. ;-) As soon as I tell tell net man to connect to "Student-Wireless", I get the passive popup notification that the network has disappeared. There seems to be two distinct issues here: 1) net man needs to actually try to make a connection, even it it seems unlikely; and, 2) net man needs a more robust method of determining if the connection is still available. Please let me know if you need more info, or if you need me to test possible fixes. Thanks! Regards, Mark A.
