a) As written in the thread Samba 4 isn't released yet and therefore will not get included with openSUSE 12.2.
Therefore I suggest to move this issue to the next openSUSE release.
Would it be possible to push it into 12.2 and by so doing get ahead of the rest of the distros? Instead of pushing LibreOffice and the latest KDE in the marketing blurb, we could offer something that really is set to change things on the server level.
b) The bind chroot issue is a different topic and is very likely caused by misconfiguration.
There was an issue with bind running chrooted which got fixed. See bnc#738156
I don't think either of us want to go there again! The fact remains that a default install of bind on 12.1 always errors with 'the working directory is not writable'. DNS is criticalfor Kerberos and therefore Samba4.
In this report you also find a very verbose description why the chroot configuration is correct and has to be like it is. If your bind setup complains about a non writable directory this is caused by misconfiguration. All you have to do is to adjust your named.conf.
On a new bare bones default install of 12.1 with _no_ extra configuration, we all have to change ownership of /var/lib/named to named:named to get a clean log.
c) The required gnutls version upgrade for openSUSE 12.1 is yet another issue.
Also this one you can adjust by using the Open Build Service by building a newer gnutls inside your project.
You also could consider to file an extra bug report with the goal to upgrade gnutls to a more recent version.
