the kernel must be in the location where the selected bootloader needs it, not in a random place.
Indeed. Since sometime last century, kernels and initrds have somehow managed to be installed to a standard location without necessity of having a bootloader installed. Added standard location(s?) haven't changed that. It's simply necessary now to declare which standard location in which to locate kernel and initrd when installed. Bootloader dedicated to a single OS isn't any more necessary now than historically. Installing sans bootloader is not reason to install no initrd anywhere. If the installation system isn't yet equipped to accept input WRT boot files location, then it should default to the traditional location. "Not managed" shouldn't be taken to mean don't put any anywhere that the existing bootloader on a multiboot system can find them. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
