I am using the same ghostscript and the more recent emacs, but this should not be the issue. I find one single failure here on my system when playing around: When creating the demo file as you described (#59). And there are no test.pdf, test.aux, test.log, no region something or prv something files hanging around, just everything from scratch. Then I enter emacs and say "preview-buffer" I get an error I cannot recover from. preview-latex is in an strange state. The only way to get "back on track" is to restart emacs (or restart preview I guess if I knew how to do this). However, if I start emacs with the file and start preview not via the preview-buffer command form within the mini-buffer but via the pull down menu everything works as expected. Always, reproducible. Characteristically I am asked whether I would like to Cache the preamble, if this question arises, things seem to work. Nevertheless, the error messages I get -_if_ I get one - differs from the one you get. Can you confirm that preview does not work independently how you try to trigger it? Are you asked for caching the preamble?
