https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=339711 Summary: Firefox Bloat on SuSE Default Homepage & Hates Novell Bugzilla Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rob.opensuse.linux@googlemail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Start firefox with defaults, and note how long it takes to show the opensuse.org first page, and compare with konqueror on same workload. Then compare the virtual memory size, and resident set sizes. Konqueror leaves Firefox for dead! Changing Firefox's home page to the Firefox default, results in much faster load time, and roughtly same RES MEM as Konqueror on SuSE page. Then find yourself working in Novell Bugzilla, on a distro like Ubuntu which offers Firefox /GNOME by default and other options require, installing an alternative. For some reason, Novell Bugzilla really chews up memory and CPU with Firefox, I've had Firefox burning CPU, and thrashing the VM with 250+ MB, just for a little bit of bug reporting here. Again Konqueror works much faster. As Firefox is such a widely used browser, and likely best choice for Windows, I can just about regard it as a Novell Bugzilla website bug, there's something wrong when the browser memory usage leads to sluggishness, even on machine with 4GiB RAM, and no page in/out occurring. On a mere 512 MiB dual CPU Ubuntu box, using Bugzilla is absolutely unbearable, thus ruling out KDE non-integration issues as the cause. As Bugzilla was a Mozilla project, I find it somewhat ironical that this Novell Bugzilla is killing Firefox, the original Mozilla Bugzilla & Red Hat's Bugzilla DB's did not have the problem, that I remember (but that was when SuSE hit release 6.1 and came in a massive CD set :) ). Something that OpenSuSE & Novell Bugzilla are doing are killing, the spawn of Mosaic Killer! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
