Now it is not necessary to enter a password. But as in comment #2, after hitting Enter with a blank password the dialog box requiring the finger swipe appears and it cannot be OK'd by Alt+o or hitting Enter again, as it should. Only a mouse click removes the pop-up, allowing the fingerprint scan to work. - Dialog box should respond to Enter and to Alt+o. The login still does not succeed with password alone. If I hurt my finger, or the scanner breaks, I cannot login, even if I type my password.
