http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=594209 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=594209#c0 Summary: console / terminal insert or delete characters on command line leaves chars behind, doesnt insert or delete right. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Milestone 4 Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: s2@forceway.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100204 SUSE/3.5.8-0.1.1 BetterPrivacy-1.47 Firefox/3.5.8 openSUSE 11.3 M4, Toshiba M55 laptop w/ intel 915 graphics. Its hard to describe, maybe I should make a screen capture movie of it happening.. But when you are in a console session (ctrl-alt-f1 for ex., NOT in graphical X environment) and you type a command, then you go back and start typing in the middle, inserting characters, they overwrite in a strange ugly way. Then if you press left arrow out to the end of your command, the proper chars will be revealed. Same ugliness happens with delete in the middle of a command. The end characters get dragged inward, looking like garbage. I notice login as user only suffers from the delete garbage, while a root login has both the insert and delete problems. I found a fix is to not use the framebuffer console. At grub boot time, erase line "vga=317" so no vga is used. Then there are no problems. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot system to login prompt (gdm, or whatever you're using) 2.ctrl-alt-f1 to go to console. login as root. 3.type a command. left arrow key into the middle of the command and start typing. Or delete some chars. Actual Results: chars get overwriten, or dragged backwards, making your command look ugly with a bunch of messed up chars. Expected Results: command should be editable with insert or delete with no problems -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
