Most close in Germany means: mirror from Germany. More precise IP geolocation of machines inside Germany is difficult / expensive to obtain. Still, I have been thinking about solutions in the past. See https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/opensuse/trunk/tools/download-redirector-v2... There is a documented idea to do something like that, and how to implement it. It would be a very nice feature for users in the vicinity of a mirror (like many large universities). Problem is, at the moment I have serious doubts about accuracy of network prefixes looked up. For performance reasons, something like the newly added facility in the GeoIP country database must suffice, however in previous tests it returned prefixes that were quite different than reality. It needs further evaluation if the available data is good enough to be usable. Another solution would be a client-side preference for certain mirrors. Whenever ftp5.gwdg.de is among the list of mirrors that have a certain file, your client could get it from there. Should be simple to implement. (And: we could even make this "mirror preference" work with mirrors which are not registered with us, I think.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
