http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=578203 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=578203#c0 Summary: yast2-scanner: provide overall driver support status information Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEEDINFO Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: jsmeix@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Development Blocker: --- In /usr/share/sane/descriptions/*.desc there is not only the ":status" for each individual model of a particular driver but also the overall driver support status in the ":version" entry, in particular :version "unmaintained" which provides useful information for the user because for "unmaintained" drivers there cannot be any kind of help if there are issues. Therefore yast2-scanner should show this information to the user so that the user knows in advance whether or not he could expect some help if the driver does not work. The only question is regarding usability: When a driver is "unmaintained", it does not mean that this driver does not work at all. Even an unmaintained driver could work perfectly well. It only means that there is no longer anybody who knows about the internal details of the driver so that there is no help at all for a user who has issues with an unmaintained driver. The question is whether this information requires a popup warning message to alert the user or if it is sufficient to just show it as additional text in the entries of the selection list of scanner models. I do not like all those more and more poups and therefore I think it is sufficient to have it as text in the selection list of scanner models. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
