Therefore, if /etc/resolv.conf exists but does not contain any DNS servers, then DNS will not be configured. If /etc/resolv.conf does not exist, however, then dhclient creates it and does write proper DNS servers to it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. /etc/init.d/network stop 2.
