https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=404129 Summary: e2fsck takes extremly long on clean filesystems Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: andreas.pfaller@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- After installing 11.0 I noticed that every boot stalled extremely long (several minutes) during the fsck phase although all filesystems were clean and a forced check (due to mount count or time limit) was not needed. Further testing showed that the 11.0 e2fsck takes much longer to check a clean file system then older versions, e.g. 11.0 fsck: [bomba ~#> time e2fsck /dev/sda7 e2fsck 1.40.8 (13-Mar-2008) data: clean, 51075/28327936 files, 43019103/56639157 blocks real 1m4.789s user 0m0.300s sys 0m0.760s Same filesystem using the 10.2 e2fsck while running 11.0: [bomba ~#> time /mnt/diavolo-root/sbin/e2fsck /dev/sda7 e2fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006) data (/dev/sda7): clean, 51075/28327936 files, 43019103/56639157 blocks real 0m0.167s user 0m0.128s sys 0m0.012s Both results are with hot caches and completely reproduceable. The complete boot takes even longer since the samples above are for one of my smaller file systems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
