Usually hotpluggable drives are "user drives", mounted automatically to /media/, or you have "system drives" in fstab, which are automatically mounted, but required to be available at bootup time. You add an entry to fstab and mark it as "noauto", but then you have to mount it manually every time you want to use it. There is today no proper common solution for hotpluggable "system volumes" in Linux. We may solve that in the future, but not in the 10.3 timeframe.
