actually, many other files below /var/log are logrotated
and at some point deleted - e.g. see
/etc/logrotate.d/syslog for warn and messaged or
/etc/logrotate.d/apache2
Those are part of the packages that create logs.
Yes, it is good that journals are compressed, but it will still mean
that every sysadmin will have to care for deleting the old ones
to prevent the disk from running full or the system becoming slow...
and ideally Linux systems should be able to run forever.
Also meanwhile I found that removing old journal files speeds up journalctl
but icewm is still slow to start on the first time after boot
and iotop shows kdm|gdm|lxdm spending plenty time in IO
(probably via some common library)
will open another bug later for that one.
