https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=439023 Summary: /etc/resolv.conf is not updated via DHCP on a system updated from 11.0 to 11.1 Beta3 Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: novell_david@bailey.id.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=248000) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=248000) /etc/resolv.conf from openSUSE 11.0 install I have a (VMware) system that I have upgraded from 11.0 to 11.1 Beta3. The network is set to start automatically and to use DHCP. However the /etc/resolv.conf is not written during this process. The existing /etc/resolv.conf (from the 11.0 install) contains only (NB. There are some blank lines): # generated by NetworkManager, do not edit! (see attachment) NB. I have not manually modified this file at all. Looking in /var/log/messages, I see: Oct 26 12:24:05 linux-8i7i nm-dispatcher.action: Script '/etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/autofs' exited with error status 1. Oct 26 12:24:05 linux-8i7i dns-resolver: ATTENTION: You have modified /etc/resolv.conf. Leaving it untouched... Oct 26 12:24:05 linux-8i7i dns-resolver: You can find my version in /etc/resolv.conf.netconfig If I move the previous /etc/resolv.conf to somewhere else, the system correctly writes the new one. I understand that 11.1 is using a new system to handle the DHCP setup (netconfig vs NetworkManager??). It would appear that the new system can't recognise the previous systems /etc/resolv.conf properly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
