http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=620989 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=620989#c0 Summary: Critical temperature reached (121C), shutting down Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: suse-linux@ml082.pinguin.uni.cc QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/5334 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.99 Safari/533.4 The problem occurs with Opensuse 11.2 and Xubuntu 10.04 so I think it is a general kernel or Bios problem and the problem was already discussed a few years before. After the pc was down for hours and the _bios_ reports temperatures between 30-40°C, xubuntu halts and Opensuse 11.2 _could_ show the message "Critical temperature reached (121C), shutting down" and it does _not_ shutdown immediately, but it could be that it shuts down immediately. This is the message, which I get with Opensuse 11.2: "kernel:[ 1132.162512] Critical temperature reached (121C), shutting down". It can be that the system stays alive for a while, as I monitored the last 2 days. At the moment the uptime is about 30min. When I try to install Xubuntu, the installation is interrupted with an unknown error and immediately after the start the message "Critical temperature reached" is shown twice. Kernel with OS 11.2: 2.6.31.12-0.2-default More info: http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_de5ac227-d011-438c-8f2c-cbfac07a8e04 Please note, this system contains a SCSI-controller and 2 SCSI-devices. /etc/sysconfig/lm_sensors HWMON_MODULES="w83627hf" MODULE_0=w83627hf sensors acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +42.0°C (crit = +90.0°C) hddtemp /dev/sda /dev/sda: Maxtor 6L200P0: 42°C I found with hwinfo: Phoenix BIOS detected: BIOS may corrupt low RAM, working it around Vendor: "Phoenix Technologies, LTD" Version: "6.00 PG" Board Info: #2 Manufacturer: "http://www.abit.com.tw/" Product: "KV7-V(VIA KT600-8237)" Version: "1.x" Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.
