I did also run into the "HTTP Error 401: Unauthorized" as described in the initial comment.
The workaround is to remove username and (plaintext) password from .oscrc. osc will ask the next time you use it, and stores it in the correct way so that it works afterwards.
The difference is that the working .oscrc has an additional line credentials_mgr_class=...
Can you please add a check for this case to osc, so that it gives a more useful error message (or even uses a working default)?
