Software may access the Intel High Definition Audio controller registers (including the memory mapped registers) by byte, word, dword quantities and on natural boundaries; dword accesses must be on dword boundaries, word accesses on word boundaries, etc. This chapter describes BIOS requirements for Intel High Definition Audio controller support. 7.1 Intel® High Definition Audio/AC’ 97 Signal Mode Selection The Intel High Definition Audio controller and the AC’97 controllers (audio and modem) share the same physical signal pins to communicate with codecs as Figure 7-1 below shows. The High Definition Audio/AC97# Signal Mode (AZ/AC97#) bit at D27:F0:Reg40h[0] determines which one of the two controllers is connected to the codec. Figure 7-1. Intel® ICH6 Intel® High Definition Audio/AC’97 Share Signals to Codecs An outstanding audio experience back to top Intel HD Audio delivers significant improvements over previous generation integrated audio and sound cards. Intel HD Audio hardware is capable of delivering the support and sound quality for up to eight channels at 192 kHz/32-bit quality, while the AC‘97 specification can only support six channels at 48 kHz/20-bit. In addition, Intel HD Audio is architected to prevent the occasional glitches or pops that other audio solutions can have by providing dedicated system bandwidth for critical audio functions. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
