YaST checks whether the URL is a service when adding a repository, if it is a service it adds it as a libzypp service. A service is defined by an repo/repoindex.xml file. See https://doc.opensuse.org/projects/libzypp/HEAD/zypp-services.html for more details and examples. There are even an example for openSUSE repositories, see the "Usecase #4" section.
