https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=360606 Summary: muted sound after boot into gnome desktop Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: f.alabas@ttmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I am using opensuse 10.3 with gnome desktop. My sound card and sound works, however mutes persistently after every boot. There seems no problem with sound card, but the only problem is; after boot, it goes in to muted state. So I need to unmute the sound card manually after every boot in order to hear sound. The last stored mixer adjustments are not remembered by whatever responsible from this job in the operating system. After every boot, mixer settings are reset and completely muted. Then I see the sound muted sign of the gnome-volume-control on the panel bar. I have already followed up the troubleshooting guides on; http://en.opensuse.org/AudioTroubleshooting and http://www.linuxjournal.com/node/1000262, but nothing helped... I tried newest alsa driver versions; 1.0.15 and 1.0.16rc1, tried to set the options with "alsamixer" and then "alsactl store" as root, tried "rcalsasound restart" and a number of other things which is already discussed in that forum; http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.php?showtopic=63283&pid=262139&mode=threaded&show=&st=entry262139 but nothing helps. There are some people in that forum who have same motherboard that has same on-board sound card, but they do not have such a problem. However they are using KDE desktop. The problem did not exist when my PC was installed by opensuse 10.1 with KDE desktop before fresh opensuse 10.3 Gnome installation. On the other hand, which is important; when I boot and so reboot into just runlevel 3, I have no problem with the sound system, it works and never mutes. Then when I try to initiate the Gnome desktop by "init 5" or "startx" from within the runlevel 3, the sound mutes again.
