The Gnome display manager will hide some users by default from the greeter: "bin,root,daemon,adm,lp,sync,shutdown,halt,mail,news,uucp,operator, nobody,nobody4,noaccess,postgres,pvm,rpm,nfsnobody,pcap". Please try the following configuration change in /etc/gdm/custom.conf: (...)
