https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=773669 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=773669#c24 --- Comment #24 from Stephan Wefing <wefing@gmx.de> 2012-08-16 22:17:04 UTC --- Hi Joey, I'm currently not at home and, therefore, asked my wife to start the rescue system with the kernel options hwprobe=-modules.pata BrokenModules=pata_pdc2027x linuxrc.debug=-udev.mods unfortunately, with these options, it seems to be impossible to start the rescue system any longer. usually, I start the rescue system from the fourth partition of /dev/sda4 using the following entry of /boot/grub/menu.lst: title update to opensuse 12.2 root (hd0,3) kernel /os122/boot/i386/loader/linux vga=0x31a splash=0 showopts hwprobe=-mo dules.pata BrokenModules=pata_pdc2027x linuxrc.debug=-udev.mods initrd /os122/boot/i386/loader/initrd when booting into the rescue system, my wife chose "hard disk" as the installation medium. after this, she had to choose the partition. for this, the system usually offers a list with all partitions present and one selects one of these by highlighting it. however, with your additional kernel option, no such list was offered and my wife entered "/dev/sda4" into an empty text field. in the next step, the system asked for the directory holding the contents of the installation dvd. this is /os122 in our case. upon hitting the return key, however, an error message popped up, stating that /os122 could not be found. when I'm back home again (last week of August), I will check this again, and, if it fails, I will try to boot from a dvd holding os 12.2 rc2. hence, I think it is best to defer any further investigations until the last week of August.
