https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343185#c2 --- Comment #2 from Tamás Németh <nice@titanic.nyme.hu> 2007-11-22 05:52:52 MST --- Danke, Marcus! I've tested it to some extent after adding the camera manually to digikam's list as "Canon PoWerShot A520 (PTP mode)". The results: At the starting point the camera is turned on and it is in view mode. I connect it to the notebok via USB. A green LED on the camera flashes a several time times, the camera's LCD display goes blank and a KDE window offering some choices appears on my monitor. Now some words about the choices: 1. "Open in DigiKam" equals to choose "Do Nothing", then start digiKam manually and then click "Camera" > "Browse Media" > "USM Imaging Interface". As I wrote earlier, it makes digiKam accessing the camera as system:/media/camera. It works anytime, but I have to press "Retry"several times as digiKam warns me about the fact that "Connection Failure - digiKam...". 2. The choices "Open In New Window" and "Browse with Gwenview" are similar to "Open in DigiKam" since it also opens system:/media/camera but not by digiKam but by Konqueror or Gwenview. These options work. 3. The choice "digiKam Detect and Download" equals to choose "Do Nothing", then start digiKam manually and then click "Camera" and choose the autodetected "Canon Digital IXUS 50 (normal mode)". As I wrote normal mode works only first time (except when PTP mode "heals" it as I will write later). When normal mode use doesn't succeed, the KDE choice window appears again immediately (why?!). When normal mode succeeds and after finishing the download and close the digiKam download window, then the KDE choice window appears as well (again, why?!). Normal mode use also renders the camera unusable. Any choice choosen from the KDE choice window results in some error. For example if I choose "Open In New Window" now, Konqueror shows and error message, which I will attach to this report as an image. When I unplug the camera's USB chord after succesful or failed normal mode use, the camera behaves strangely as well: Normally the green LED flashes several times and the the LCD displays shows my images again. After normal mode use the LED flashes only once and the LCD remains black. If I quickly reconnect my camera in this state, I don't get the usual KDE choice window. I have to wait a little (or turn it off and on) until the camera changes into a normal usable state, when the camera's LCD display shows the photos and Linux is able to detect the camera. 4. Using the camera in digiKam as th manually added "Canon PoWerShot A520 (PTP mode)" always works (except when everything is messed up by a normal mode access). PTP mode access even heals normal mode access the following way. After closing the digiKam download window, I am able to use "Camera" > "Canon Digital IXUS 50 (normal mode)" once. So. This situation is acceptable for me, but what about users in general? It's difficult to use digiKam, moreover F-Spot is totally unusable. I have some questions: -What can be wrong with normal mode? (both in digiKam and F-Spot) -Where can I read about "system:/media/camera", "normal mode" and "PTP mode" in Linux? -What further efforts can I make to help you solve this problem? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
