https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845616 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845616#c0 Summary: Upgrade to KVM 1.6.0 makes existing KVM guests on certain 12.3 hosts unusable Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KVM AssignedTo: kvm-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rm@anracon.de QAContact: jdouglas@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 I use KVM on a server system based on Opensuse 12.3 x86_64. I had several KVM guest systems (LAMP servers, mostly Opensuse 12.3, but alos OS 12.2, all 64 Bit ) running without any problems until a recent KVM upgrade. Spice, virt-manager etc. worked like a charm ... Normally, I perform updates by using the following repository download.opensuse.org/repositories/Virtualization/openSUSE_12.3 This used to work quite untilI tried an update to a new KVM RPM of version 1.6.0-216.1-x86_64 and 1.6.0-218.1. All other packages as libvirt, libvirt-daemon, libvirt-clients, spice etc., were and are already on the newest versions available in the the mentioned repository. After the upgrade of the KVM rpm none (!) of my different virtual systems could be started on the KVM host. All KVM guests "stop" already at the very beginning of the startup process. "virt-manager" shows a constant 100% CPU usage of each of the guests I try to start - but there never appears any boot screen with spice. The virtual screen of the virtual machines remains black. This behaviour seems to be completely independent of the video settings of the guests (virtual video device, spice, vnc .... ). I tried a lot of combinations. Furthermore, it is not possible to get a completely new configured virtual machine to start for the first time (neither with installation DVD or by using images). So, the problem does not depend on my specific virtual guest machines or their configuration. However, when installing and using the original KVM version 1.3.0-3.3.2 or the present KVM version 1.3.1-3.6.2 from the standard Opensuse 13.3 Update repository, everything works again as it should. Without downgrading any of the other required virtualization RPMS. Hardware of the KVM host: Intel quad Q9550, Raid10 disk array on 3ware controller used with LVM, The KVM guests access specific LVM partitions via virtio drivers. Also a standard bridged intel network card is accessed via virtio. My Kernel version is 3.7.10-1.11.1. Entries in /var/log/messages do not show any significant problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Openususe 12.3 with KVM, libvirt, qemu, spice 2. Setup virtual machines 3. upgrade KVM RPM to version 1.6.0 via virtualization repository 4. Try to start the virtual machines via virt-manager Actual Results: The virtual machine tries to star, shows 100 % CPU usage but never gets to work Expected Results: Startup of the virtual guest as with e.g. KVM 1.3.1-3.6.2 from the Opensuse 12.3 Update repository -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
