Could you elaborate the following points?
Hello, I am using Opensuse for some months now, and the sound does not work any more. It works in Windows (dual boot system), but not in Linux any more. I checked whether YAST sound module can play a test sound, but this is not the case.
"does not work _any more_" means that it have worked in the earlier version of SUSE, or do you just compare with Windows? Also, is openSUSE 12.2 a fresh installation? Or it's an update?
I have an Asus notebook and the sound card shown in Yast is "Intel Audio device".
Please give alsa-info.sh output and attach to bugzilla.
The mixer shows full sound volume. Reboot did not help.
What did you test exactly? The speaker output only? Or from the headphone, too?
I want to share to other users this work-around I found: after logging into Linux (with KDE) with user "root" it worked, and continued so even when I logged in again with my normal user id.
So, if you once login as root, it starts working flawlessly, and you'll get sounds even with the normal user login after that?
I once had the problem that sound did not work probably because I did shutdown in Windows with the sound muted, but if this was the case an intermediate reboot with Windows would help.
When did you have such a problem? On 12.2 system or older distro versions?
Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce
What does it mean...? The bug doesn't appear?
Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start system 2. log in as normal user (not root) 3. try to play any sound, e.g. using a browser or play an mp3-file using kaffeine. Actual Results: No sound in any application, also not on KDE start / login.
If the problem happens only as a normal user, it's likely a device permission problem. Are you using systemd, or sysvinit? The latter is known to be broken for some aspects like the device permissions on desktop. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
