It seems that it recognizes that I have modified resolv.conf and therefore it required the -f option localhost:~ # netconfig update -v debug: lockfile created (/var/run/netconfig.pid) for PID 8784 debug: lockfile created debug: Module order: dns-resolver dns-bind ntp-runtime nis debug: dns-resolver Plugin called debug: Use NetworkManager policy merged settings debug: exec get_dns_settings: /var/run/netconfig//NetworkManager.netconfig debug: exit get_dns_settings debug: write_resolv_conf: eur.cchbc.com eur.cchbc.com 10.201.0.35 10.200.122.217 10.201.0.34 debug: ATTENTION: You have modified /etc/resolv.conf. Leaving it untouched... debug: You can find my version in /etc/resolv.conf.netconfig debug: dns-bind Plugin called debug: ntp-runtime Plugin called debug: Use NetworkManager policy merged settings debug: exec get_ntp_settings: /var/run/netconfig//NetworkManager.netconfig debug: exit get_ntp_settings debug: nis Plugin called debug: Use NetworkManager policy merged settings debug: exec get_nis_settings: /var/run/netconfig//NetworkManager.netconfig debug: exit get_nis_settings debug: format_yp_conf called with : debug: current domain is ; given domain is debug: domain matches ... set empty debug: No changes for /etc/yp.conf ATTENTION: You have modified /etc/resolv.conf. Leaving it untouched... You can find my version in /etc/resolv.conf.netconfig ... localhost:~ # netconfig update -v -f debug: lockfile created (/var/run/netconfig.pid) for PID 8862 debug: lockfile created debug: Module order: dns-resolver dns-bind ntp-runtime nis debug: dns-resolver Plugin called debug: Use NetworkManager policy merged settings debug: exec get_dns_settings: /var/run/netconfig//NetworkManager.netconfig debug: exit get_dns_settings debug: write_resolv_conf: eur.cchbc.com eur.cchbc.com 10.201.0.35 10.200.122.217 10.201.0.34 debug: force replace set: backup created as /etc/resolv.conf.20080925-105512 debug: Installing new /etc/resolv.conf debug: dns-bind Plugin called debug: ntp-runtime Plugin called debug: Use NetworkManager policy merged settings debug: exec get_ntp_settings: /var/run/netconfig//NetworkManager.netconfig debug: exit get_ntp_settings debug: nis Plugin called debug: Use NetworkManager policy merged settings debug: exec get_nis_settings: /var/run/netconfig//NetworkManager.netconfig debug: exit get_nis_settings debug: format_yp_conf called with : debug: current domain is ; given domain is debug: domain matches ... set empty debug: Installing new /etc/yp.conf What I find strange here is that netconfig now is indicating that it write_resolv_conf and not when I am connecting to my home network. Despite that NetworkManager creates a new NetworkManager.netconfig. The content of NetworkManager.netconfig is now : CREATETIME='1222331652' SERVICE='NetworkManager' INTERFACE='eth0' DNSSEARCH='eur.cchbc.com eur.cchbc.com' DNSSERVERS='10.201.0.35 10.200.122.217 10.201.0.34' The only difference that I can see is the DNSSEARCH servers.
