http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=545024 Summary: Rapidly increasing Load_Cycle_Count Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Milestone 8 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rhafer@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Development Created an attachment (id=321512) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=321512) hdparm -I output On a 11.2M8 test system ("Shuttle X27D" equipped with an Intel Board and a ATOM 330) smartctl shows me a rapidly increasing Load_Cycle_Count of the Harddrive. It unloads almost once per second. The harddrive is only about a week old and already has a Load_Cycle_Count of above 40000. Disabling the harddrive powermangement (hdparm -B 255 or hdparm -B 254) has no effect on this it seems. Only keeping the disk busy prevents it from unloading. Find the output of hdparm -I and smartctl -a attached.
