https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=406480 User a_kemper@gmx.de added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=406480#c1 Summary: USB printer not properly recognized (Samsung MFP SCX4200) Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: a_kemper@gmx.de QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com Found By: --- The installation of my multi-function printer with Samsung's Unified Linux Driver (http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=DE&CttFileID=828690&CDCttType=DR&ModelType=N&ModelName=SCX-4200&VPath=DR/200707/20070720152943906_UnifiedLinuxDriver.tar.gz) failed in the way, that no printer could be found by the driver software. Also manually selecting "/dev/mfp4", as it has been previously set-up in SuSE 10.1 didn't help, even though according to "/var/log/messages" the printer should be visible: usb 2-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 usb 2-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 4 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04E8 pid 0x341B usb 2-3: New USB device found, idVendor=04e8, idProduct=341b usb 2-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 2-3: Product: SCX-4200 Series usb 2-3: Manufacturer: Samsung usb 2-3: SerialNumber: 8T21BFAPA09373K. Unfortunately no further (error) messages can be found during set-up in "messages" and there is also no option to directly import the "scx4200.ppd" in the YaST printer dialog, since neither the "add driver" nor the "connection assistant" button show any effect. Any hints on how to proceed and/or find a workaround??
