It took me a while to find a free minute ... The above procedure (booting with init=/bin/bash) leads to a working suspend to RAM - multiple times in a row. While at it I also tried s2ram with a normally booted system (with network and graphical login manager), but from a virtual console (by pressing STRG-ALT-F2). Here everything works fine, too. Multiple suspends with 's2ram -f' work as expected.
