If this the way to go, please let me know. Is there a different way to figure out if we're in a VMware virtual machine? I don't know. I guess there is a reason why VMWARE implemented the detection that way. Michel (@VMWARE), any hints would be appreciated here. Is Philip Langdale, the original author of vmouse_detect, still working at VMWARE?
