https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=329035 Summary: mdns off does not work anymore Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: johan.ferner@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I'm a Linux user in a mixed Windows AD / Unix environment. We're using intra.local as a domain for internal pc and some internal resources. mdns off in /etc/hosts.conf does not work anymore. It did in 10.2. I think I have isolated the problem to the following line in /etc/nsswitch.conf hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns With mdns off in hosts.conf: * If I remove [NOTFOUND=return] I get a timeout and a result. * If I remove mdns4_minimal I get no timeout and a result. To summarize: * If I remove mdns4_minimal from nsswitch.conf I get the old behaviour of 10.2 back. * If I have mdns4_minimal in nsswitch.conf then 'mdns off' seems to be ignored.
