Problem determined.
This is _not_ a bug.
I found that I had an unusual symlink in ~/bin for python: python ->
/home/gapinski/.cxoffice/CIS-CAT/desktopdata/cxmenu/Shortcuts/cxoffice-b159f240-69b8-427c-b0b5-f2b88e57879e.pythonwin.
This symlink was apparently due to my installation/use of ActiveState Python in
a CrossOver Linux environment. The symlink may have been created at the time of
(CrossOver-mediated) installation.
Kinda weird - I found this after installing python-ldap and getting a similar
error.
My system now reports (correctly):
gapinski@chipotle:~> python -c 'from distutils import sysconfig; print
sysconfig.get_python_lib();'
/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages
Sorry for the false report.
Please close the bug.
