https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231059 Summary: Installation of 10.2 does not find sata disks Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Joseph.Comfort@asu.edu QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Computer: HP Pavilion a1520n. Motherboard: Asus A8N-LA (Nagami2-GL8E). AMD dual core X2 3800+ cpu ch1p. 1 GB memory. 250 GB sata disk (sda) for WinXP; added 200 GB sata disk (sdb) for Linux. SuSE 10.2 x86_64 DVD iso (and also CD1) downloaded and burned. md5sums are OK. "Installation" hangs almost immediately at "Starting udev..." (see bugs 229217 and 231056). Workaround is to disable ACPI. However, during the subsequent probing of the hardware (in the System Analysis stage), I get the message: "Error. No hard disks were found for the installation. Please check your hardware!" Indeed, no disks are avalable for partitioning. The sata_nv driver was loaded. Workaround is to set parameter "maxcpus=0". System will install. However, it appears that only 1 cpu is available after that. Only 1 cpu is listed in the hardware information listing; xosview and top show only 1 cpu. Removing the maxcpus parameter prevents the computer from booting. In aborting back to text mode, I can display (but do not know how to capture on media) the Kernel Messages. It appears that 2 processors are detected and set up, prior to the switching to colour frame buffer device. I don't see anything about maxcpus.
