https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=762709 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=762709#c0 Summary: Amarok does not play with gstreamer or xine backend on KDE upgrade to 4.8.3 in 64 bit machines Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: grglsn765@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=491259) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=491259) screen shot of hitting test on configuring phonon, and sound plays as expected, but sound does not play through normal amarok interface User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0 On 2 separate 64 bit machines, Amarok will not play sound files of any type so long as phonon is using gstreamer backend or xine backend. This started on upgrade to KDE 4.8.2, and after installing patches and upgradeing to KDE 4.8.3, there was no improvement. There are no related bugs to this type of failure on kde.bugs.org. I have gone to settings -> configure Amarok -> configure Phonon and tested the sound playback hitting the test button. See the screen shot for this. When I hit test, the test sound plays perfectly, but the regular play button on an mp3 file (or any file for that matter) through Amarok will not play. The sliding progress marker for the file indicates that Amarok is playing the sound file, but no sound comes out of the speakers. After installing and setting the VLC backend, Amarok will play files, though it is an inadequate setup because the equalizer is disabled with VLC. The behavior has been the same on both 64 bit machines that I have. On one of my 32 bit machines, I also upgraded KDE to 4.8.2 and then 4.8.3, yet Amarok has not had a problem playing sound files on this machine. The reason I am posting the bug here in novell bugzilla is that I did not see any evidence that this was a specific KDE problem on other distributions besides openSUSE. I had one other person with the same problem on the openSUSE list.
