This is really odd, I could not find what process actually enables ctrl_toggle. Neither startx, nor X directly, nor icewm-session, nor SCIM nor kdm do, but logging in through kdm - and it's there when icewm is done loading. xsetkbmap -print: xkb_keymap { xkb_keycodes { include "xfree86+aliases(qwerty)" }; xkb_types { include "complete" }; xkb_compat { include "complete" }; xkb_symbols { include "pc+us(basic)+de(basic):2+group(ctrls_toggle)+compose(menu)+eurosign(e)" }; xkb_geometry { include "pc(pc105)" }; }; This stays the same, whether ctrls_toggle is actually available (normal login) or not available (others).
