I was able to get my cooling fan to work properly on opensuse 11.4 working by installing a kernel from the http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard/ repository. I have found that this problem is not totally resolved by installing an updated kernel for 12.1, as I have done to get my fan working with openSUSE 11.4. I have installed kernel 3.2.6 from opensuse stable standard repository on both 11.4 and 12.1. On 11.4 after installing the 3.2.6-1.1 kernel, the cooling fan reliably comes on at about 50 degrees C cpu temperature, and stays on to cool the laptop. If it does shut off, it will come back on when the cpu temperature rises above 50 degrees C. However, the fan will never come on at any time with the 2.6.x kernels. After installing the same exact 3.2.6 kernel on 12.1, sometimes the fan will come on at around 50 degrees C, but most likely it won't come on till about 65 degrees C. But, then it doesn't even do that all the time and sometimes it won't come on at all. If it does come on, it cools the laptop to somewhere below 50 degrees, then shuts off, never to come on again. I have tried several kernels from this repository and they all act the same way. I have had this problem on the laptop since version 11.2, and it has been given little attention to resolve the problem even though I have introduced it as a bug in each successive version of openSuse. I have to rely on the help of those more knowledgeable if this is ever to be resolved. I hope that someone at Novell will take a personal interest to see it resolved. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
