(/usr/lib/cups/backend/parallel) stopped with status 1! E ... Unable to open parallel port device file "/dev/lp0": Permission denied ----------------------------------------------------------------------- which indicates a problem with the parallel port device node and not with CUPS. There are some bug reports about problems with the parallel port in our Novell/Suse Bugzilla. A good report to start is https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=185135 See also the other bug reports which are mentioned there. The current workaround is to experiment with various BIOS settings and explicite additional settings in /etc/modprobe.conf to find a setup, which actually works in a particular problematic case. Note that a PPA printer cannot print plain text directly so that a command like echo -en "\rHello\r\f" >/dev/lp0 must work without error-message (watch "dmesg" and /var/log/messages) but a PPA printer would not print anything. I guess something regarding the parallel port was messed up during the one installation of the operating system and after the clean new installation the parallel port stuff works. All in all the various different errors together with the harddisk stuff seem to indicate that your hardware might be somewhat unstable which leads to various different unexpected and unreproducilbe problems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
