Thanks a LOT for figuring this out. But reading above that only openSUSE is affected - I'd assume that Ubuntu and Fedora are also shipping with these mitigations enabled by default, no?
So I had a look upon fedora29. - kernel version 4.18.17 - gnome version 3.30.2 hyperthreading on and it seems spectre protection is also turned on
So presumably the only difference we have is that kernel version is different.
What do you think?
