I can confirm now that the audio profile is a generalized problem of bluez.
I did a new install.
I tried with new hardware (Pioneer BT Headset SE-CL761BT-K).
Again the choice drops always to the hdp/hsp profile.
If you can make it to the A2DP by chance, avoiding more then one user (like
Win98 - wow, we are making progress) then the system will have sound
interruptions, no bass, and the setting will not be recalled once set in a
future session.
As stated, even with the A2DP the sound quality is miserable.
There does not seem to be a way to durably force the system to recall a BT
audio profile once more than one user is logged in.
