https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=863851 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=863851#c0 Summary: Path `/boot/grub2' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: a.winzer@koenig-dey.de QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; Win64; x64; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0 Last weekend I did a zypper dup with common repos (oss, non-oss, packman, samba, source, update, update non-oss). A newer kernel was installed and since then mkinitrd gives the following output: computer:/ # mkinitrd Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.7.10-1.24-desktop Initrd image: /boot/initrd-3.7.10-1.24-desktop Root device: /dev/disk/by-id/raid-pdc_fjjhaaib-part7 (/dev/dm-4) (mounted on / as ext4) Resume device: /dev/disk/by-id/raid-pdc_fjjhaaib-part6 (/dev/dm-3) Kernel Modules: thermal_sys thermal processor fan dm-mod dm-snapshot dm-log dm-region-hash dm-mirror scsi_dh scsi_dh_hp_sw scsi_dh_rdac scsi_dh_emc scsi_dh_alua xhci-hcd hid-logitech-dj Features: acpi dm block usb dmraid kpartx resume.userspace resume.kernel Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.7.10-1.28-desktop Initrd image: /boot/initrd-3.7.10-1.28-desktop Root device: /dev/disk/by-id/raid-pdc_fjjhaaib-part7 (/dev/dm-4) (mounted on / as ext4) Resume device: /dev/disk/by-id/raid-pdc_fjjhaaib-part6 (/dev/dm-3) Kernel Modules: thermal_sys thermal processor fan dm-mod dm-snapshot dm-log dm-region-hash dm-mirror scsi_dh scsi_dh_hp_sw scsi_dh_rdac scsi_dh_emc scsi_dh_alua xhci-hcd hid-logitech-dj Features: acpi dm block usb dmraid kpartx resume.userspace resume.kernel Perl-Bootloader: 2014-02-13 18:13:00 <3> pbl-4479.2 Core::RunCommand.1642: Error: Command '/usr/sbin/grub2-install --target=i386-pc --force --skip-fs-probe "(hd0)" >/var/log/YaST2/y2log_bootloader 2>&1' failed with code 256 and output: Path `/boot/grub2' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Installation is impossible. Aborting. There was an error generating the initrd (1) I've tried to uninstall kernel 3.7.10-1.28. Then I got the same error message. So I installed it again and got the message as shown. I don't know, if the system would reboot. I've seen, that grub2 was updated, too: computer:/ # rpm -qa --last | grep -i grub\* grub2-efi-2.00-19.31.1.x86_64 Sun Feb 9 18:50:44 2014 grub2-2.00-19.31.1.x86_64 Sun Feb 9 18:50:40 2014 grub2-i386-pc-2.00-19.31.1.x86_64 Sun Feb 9 18:50:38 2014 grub2-x86_64-efi-2.00-19.31.1.x86_64 Sun Feb 9 18:47:59 2014 grub2-branding-openSUSE-12.3-6.38.1.noarch Thu Jul 18 13:54:43 2013 grub-0.97-188.1.1.x86_64 Tue Mar 19 20:52:51 2013 Could you please at least tell me, if just grub (and not grub2) is affected and how my chances are for a proper system reboot? My other question would be, if I could uninstall grub, because I thought grub2 would do the job alone? I set the severity to critical, because of this fact. Feel free to change it, if this problem would be easy to solve. Last but not least I'm not sure if this could be the same bug like https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=811699 or https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=824033 Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: This would mean a completely new system installation for me. Expected Results: mkinitrd should run without errors again. I'm using a system with an onboard (faked) RAID. So it's a bit tricky to find out, what would be the right /dev/disk/...-entry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
