https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727978 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727978#c0 Summary: black screen (backlight enabled) while booting Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sven.burmeister@gmx.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 I used tumbleweed with 11.4, including kernel 3.1 and there was no issue. After dupping 11.4 to 12.1 I get a black screen while booting on my DELL notebook with intel graphics chipset. As soon as X is started the screen shows some content. If I switch to tty1 I do not see any splash or the last boot messages but just a normal login. Using nomodeset helps for booting but results in a low resolution for X. Since bug 669798 states that it happens with any kernel > .37 I do not think it is the same issue.
