https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=259043 Summary: SP1 RC1 sax fails to use radeon driver Product: SUSE LINUX 10.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: miguel@novell.com QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com I have a ThinkPad T60p, after upgrading from Beta4 to RC1 the machine could not go into graphics mode. Sax2 is only able to use fbdev, I tried using: sax2 -r -m 0=radeon But it complained that no such device existed. Hardcoding "radeon" on the xorg.conf file as the driver did not work either (instead of fbdev), it complains that there is no hardware found. I installed the latest proprietary fglrx driver and was able to use it with the ThinkPad t60p, but *only* if I manually added "fglrx" as the driver in xorg.conf, if I let sax2 set it up, the screen would turn blank (the machine still responds to ping and ssh) Killing X would not restore video. Another observation: after sax runs with fglrx on this machine the CPU gets pegged with 100% of activity, but none of it comes from any user processes (top does not show any activity, but the load is always at 1.0, and there is a field saying 99% wa in top). The problem with fglrx that turns the screen black and useless happens when I load the "dri" module, if no "dri" module is specified, I can use X but without any dri or 3d acceleration (those are David Reveman's words, I do not know what that means) but I know it runs slower than with Xgl. The machine was working fine with Beta4 before the upgrade to RC1 with the fglrx proprietary drivers. After the upgrade I regenerated the packages and installed those packages. I tried both my old installer and the new installer released yesterday on ATI's site. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
