The network link is up, but only at 10 Mbps, not at 100 Mbps as supported by the network switch. Here is the relevant output of dmesg: Feb 3 19:46:01 lse80 ifup: eth0 device: Intel Corporation 82578DM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 05) Feb 3 19:46:01 lse80 kernel: [ 11.601827] e1000e 0000:00:19.0: irq 31 for MSI/MSI-X Feb 3 19:46:01 lse80 kernel: [ 11.652583] e1000e 0000:00:19.0: irq 31 for MSI/MSI-X Feb 3 19:46:01 lse80 kernel: [ 11.653201] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready Feb 3 19:46:01 lse80 ifup: eth0 Feb 3 19:46:01 lse80 ifup: IP address: 131.188.140.80/24 Feb 3 19:46:01 lse80 ifup: [...] Feb 3 19:46:03 lse80 kernel: [ 13.467215] e1000e: eth0 NIC Link is Up 10 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: None Feb 3 19:46:03 lse80 kernel: [ 13.467221] 0000:00:19.0: eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO Feb 3 19:46:03 lse80 kernel: [ 13.469035] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready I tried to force the e1000e module to use 100 Mbps using ethtool. But I couldn't get the link up with that connection speed. There seems to be an upstream patch addressing that problem: http://lists.openwall.net/netdev/2010/01/22/61 Will this patch make it into the next kernel update of openSUSE 11.2? Or is there a workaround?
